Gail Lukasik’s best-selling memoir, White Like Her: My Family’s Story of Race and Racial Passing was named by The Washington Post, as one of the most inspiring stories of 2017. The book captured national attention and led to Gail’s appearance on NBC’s the Today Show.
Her most recent nonfiction book, What They Never Told Us: True Stories of Family Secrets and Hidden Identities Revealed, a follow up book to White Like Her, tells the stories of ordinary people who made extraordinary, life-changing discoveries about their parentage and/or race and ethnicity that shattered their identities.
Her mother’s story was featured in the documentary film History of Memory, which won multiple film awards, including a 2019 X award at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Gail also writes mystery novels. Her fifth mystery, The Darkness Surrounds Us, a gothic, historical novel, was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping ghost story, well-crafted with unpredictable plotting and superior atmospherics.”
